Intrigue: The Glass Bottom Kayak

One option for boaters looking for a rigid kayak is the Seaward Intrigue. PY recently sea-trialed this compact, lightweight kayak and judged it a great choice for carrying aboard a yacht. The Intrigue is 10’2” long, constructed from thermoformed plastic, and weighs less than 40 lbs.-big attractions for those with small vessels. The ABS capped plastic hull molded through vacuum forming, is a durable, lighter and reportedly more flexible than fiberglass.

The Intrigue is a recreational kayak and therefore best suited to poking about anchorages and – with a draft of a few inches – exploring estuaries and rivers where you don’t dare take a motorized dinghy. To make shallow water exploring even more interesting the Intrigue has a clear Lexan water view panel in the bottom, allowing paddlers the chance to see undersea life without getting wet.
